Holset HX35, HX40 and HX50 turbochargers

Holset seems to be a very common choice for an upgrade. Not in vain, as they definitely offer a very good turbo for decent money.

Our shop has a listing with the HX35, HX40 and HX50 -series units.

The top seller is naturally the HX35 -series where the base model offers a solid oil-only turbocharger for 1.8 to 2.5 liter engines for 300 to 500 hp with a #12 turbine.

HX35 super comes with a #8 turbine and is water cooled. It suits 1.6 to 2 liter engines reacing powers from 300 to 450 hp. The turbine is relatively small, so this turbo will actually be very streetable while still offering great power outputs.

HX40 Super is mainly a turbo for big 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines. Officially rated at 1.8 to 3 liter engines and topping at an impressive 700hp, this turbo is frequently seen on BMW sixes, 2JZ and RB engines. It is available with #14, #16 and #18 turbine housings.

The most outrageous builds get a HX50MFS which has a billet compressor wheel accompanied with a #19 turbine. Official ratings put this monster at 650 to 750 hp and 2 to 3-liter engines, allthough the HX50 is often seen on even bigger engines. In the end everything depends on what your're after: if you want a fast car, go with something that spools up. If you want fun and enjoy the spoolup and eventual "kick of the mule", the go with the bigger options of the range.
